Sheikh Sultan spoke about the necessity to protect and maintain tangible heritage, such as ancient artefacts and buildings, and intangible heritage, such as traditional music, dances and chanting, in a telephone interview on the “Direct Line” programme. A society with no identity has got no roots, so heritage protection is necessary for our future generations, he emphasized.
He also explained that the word “Zubarah” in Al Zubarah means “stacking.” In Arabic, buind means stones stacked on one another. He encouraged citizens to be patriotic, united and not to become unnecessarily confrontational, particularly on the social media. HH the Ruler emphasised the importance of responsible digital engagement, and advised against spreading negativity.
Sheikh Sultan, in his message, pointed out the responsibility of individuals to protect heritage and maintain national unity, and taking care of the environment. He advised proud citizens not to forget their rich cultural heritage and to hand it over to their children and than to posterity.
Addressing the youth in a parting note, Sheikh Sultan urged them to be part of the productive society by showing respect and kindness, not using foul language and overcoming online quarrels. He urged them to remember their native land, to honor the blood shed by their fathers, and to be proud of their cultural and national responsibilities.
