The decision, announced on Friday, May 16, does not include schools in their third year of operation. These schools would still be subject to a full inspection to judge how they have been performing. However, KHDA will still be keeping an eye on how schools are doing, via targeted visits that will address some specific issues of educational quality and development.

How the KHDA Will Regulate School Performance

The purpose of targeted visits will support Education 33 priorities including innovation, resilience and mental well-being. Such visits will reflect the feedback gathered from each of the school’s communities so that we have a full understanding of both a school’s needs and what it is doing to turn itself around. The updated model supports KHDA’s dedication to equip every child in Dubai with the best opportunities in learning.

IMPROVING COLLABORATION FOR QUALITY EDUCATION

The decision by the KHDA to halt full inspections is intended to foster a more co-operative relationship between schools and its regulators. The authority thinks this pause will give schools room to think about “what we’re doing in schools in terms of education and how we continue to innovate for our students to be successful in school.

Fatma Ibrahim Belrehif, CEO for Education Quality Assurance and Compliance Agency at KHDA said: “The change in approach gives us the unique opportunity to reflect more deeply on what to expect of quality in education and how to ensure it exists.

“Dubai’s private schools have consistently exhibited their resilience and commitment to student learning,” said Belrehif. “It will help schools to concentrate on further development while maintaining the high quality of the educational system.”

What Does This Mean for Private Schools in Dubai?

The news is a double-edged sword for Dubai’s private schools. They won’t be receiving comprehensive inspections but through targeted visits and ongoing checking we can be sure that schools are meeting high standards of education. Schools will also be able to concentrate on long-term plans for student achievement without the spotlight of a full inspection.

It also presents greater possible school-khda-school community collaboration time to concentrate on innovation and the quality of learning.
