Saeed bin Suroor is widely regarded as one of the greatest sportsmen the UAE has ever produced. His journey in the world of horse racing is deeply linked with the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, whose innovative approach has transformed the sport at a global level.
Born on October 10, 1966, in Dubai, Saeed was raised in a family where horses were not just animals but an integral part of their life and culture. Though his heart always lay with horses, his professional path began in law enforcement. Saeed joined the Dubai Police Force, where he learned discipline and leadership, traits that would later serve him well in his racing career.
Despite his commitment to law enforcement, Saeed’s love for horses remained strong. He spent his spare time training racehorses for friends and family, quietly developing his skills. His potential was soon recognized by none other than Sheikh Mohammed, who, in 1992, entrusted Saeed with a stable of 28 horses—an opportunity that changed the course of his life. 
In 1995, Saeed was appointed as Godolphin’s head trainer, taking over from Hilal Ibrahim. It was a significant decision, as Saeed had yet to train at the highest level, but Sheikh Mohammed saw something special in him. The two began working closely together, with the Ruler of Dubai personally guiding key decisions for Godolphin’s stable. Their unique partnership has led to numerous successes in global horse racing.
Saeed’s approach to training is methodical and rooted in the belief that striving for excellence is key. His career achievements speak for themselves: nine Dubai World Cup victories, over 2,000 wins worldwide, and nearly 200 Group 1 victories. His influence extends across major international races, including the Arlington Million, Breeders’ Cup Turf, and the prestigious Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
