Exciting News for UAE Residents: Eid Al Fitr 2025 Set to Offer a Five-Day Holiday!

UAE residents eagerly awaiting their first extended holiday break of 2025 have reason to celebrate—Eid Al Fitr is expected to provide a generous five-day holiday! As the holy month of Ramadan draws to a close, preparations are underway to observe Eid Al Fitr, an important Islamic festival marking the end of fasting.

Likely Dates for Eid Al Fitr 2025

This year, UAE’s moon-sighting committee is set to meet on Ramadan 29, which coincides with Saturday, March 29, 2025. On this evening, experts and volunteers will carefully observe the sky for the sighting of the crescent moon. If the crescent moon is sighted on March 29, Ramadan will conclude after 29 days, resulting in a shorter, four-day break. In this scenario, residents will enjoy holidays from Sunday, March 30, to Tuesday, April 1, along with the regular Saturday weekend.

However, according to the Dubai Astronomy Group’s detailed astronomical calculations, there’s promising news for those hoping for an extended break. Experts have predicted that Ramadan is more likely to complete a full 30-day cycle this year. If the crescent moon is not visible on March 29, Ramadan will extend to a full 30 days. Consequently, Ramadan 30 (Sunday, March 30) will officially be declared a holiday as well. This would result in a total of five days off, running from Sunday, March 30, through Wednesday, April 2, including the preceding Saturday weekend.

Confirming the Holiday Dates

Though the astronomical predictions strongly suggest a longer break, the exact dates will be officially confirmed only upon the convening of the UAE’s moon-sighting committee on March 29. This committee, comprising religious scholars and astronomy experts, will provide an official announcement after carefully observing and verifying the appearance or absence of the crescent moon.

Participate in the Moon-Sighting Tradition

n keeping with cherished Islamic traditions, the Dubai Astronomy Group is inviting residents across the UAE to participate in the captivating practice of moon sighting. Enthusiastic observers are encouraged to turn their eyes westward immediately after sunset on Saturday, March 29, searching for the slender crescent moon that signals the arrival of Eid.

For an enhanced viewing experience, residents can use binoculars or telescopes to increase the likelihood of spotting the crescent. Anyone successfully sighting the new moon is encouraged to promptly report their observation to the local authorities or directly to the official moon-sighting committee.

According to the Dubai Astronomy Group, the Eid crescent is expected to be clearly visible on the evening of March 30, making March 31 the likely first day of Eid Al Fitr festivities in the UAE.

Celebrate Eid Al Fitr with Family and Friends

Regardless of whether the Eid holiday lasts four or five days, Eid Al Fitr remains a joyous occasion celebrated across the UAE with enthusiasm, warmth, and a sense of community. Families and friends will gather to attend Eid prayers, exchange greetings, give gifts, and share delightful feasts.

Stay tuned for the official announcement and start planning your Eid celebrations as UAE residents eagerly await the first long weekend of 2025!
