UAE’s Economic Diplomacy Strengthens Global Ties

Economic diplomacy is a key element in the UAE’s global strategy, driving the country’s influence through trade and investment, according to Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Dhaheri, deputy director-general of the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy (AGDA). In a recent interview with the Khaleej Times, Dr. Al Dhaheri emphasized how the UAE’s approach remains adaptable, enabling it to engage with major powers without getting caught in geopolitical conflicts.

The UAE’s balanced diplomatic efforts with both the US and China are a prime example of its flexibility. This pragmatic diplomacy allows the UAE to benefit from global trade tensions, positioning itself as a hub for transshipment and re-exports.

“The UAE’s approach focuses on practical solutions rather than ideological alignments, benefiting both its national interests and global stability,” said Dr. Al Dhaheri. This flexibility allows the UAE to maintain strong relationships with multiple powers without getting involved in divisive geopolitical issues.

The UAE also excels in multilateral diplomacy, playing a critical role in international organizations and acting as a mediator in global crises, such as the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. Its humanitarian aid efforts, including over $98 billion in foreign assistance, further strengthen its global presence.

Dr. Al Dhaheri also discussed the influence of Dr. Anwar Gargash, whose strategic vision shaped the UAE’s rise as a global diplomatic leader. The AGDA’s programs continue this legacy by training the next generation of diplomats to meet the challenges of a rapidly evolving global landscape, particularly in areas like sustainability and climate diplomacy.
