Blaze in Al Quoz Under Control; Smoke Visible Across Dubai

Dubai residents woke up to the sight of huge plumes of smoke visible from some of the city’s most significant landmarks including Downtown Dubai and Dubai Marina on Thursday morning. The cause of the smoke is a fire reported at 8:24am at the Al Quoz Industrial Area 1.

The emirate’s Civil Defence department confirmed the fire, which broke out in a pair of warehouses stocking general goods, was “moderate”. Al Quoz Fire Station were at the scene after six minutes of receiving the call. 9:40 By this time fire under control cooling started at 9:51 am.

Fortunately there are no casualties. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Pictures and footage being circulated on social media show the thick smoke wafting across the area around Equiti Metro Station in Al Quoz, with residents from nearby high-rise flats also posting their views of the incident.

A Dubai Marina resident, who was surprised to see the phenomenon, said: “I woke up to find a large cloud of smoke that was even visible from my balcony.” One person claimed they could see the smoke from a metro train near Dubai Mall Metro Station.

It comes just a day after a small fire was reported in Al Quoz, with some residents noticing white smoke billowing from the area on Thursday morning. Smoke had been coming out of the compound since Wednesday, a worker in the vicinity of the site said.

The public has been advised to continue to be vigilant and listen to official instructions. No one was injured and the fire was contained, but residents can only breathe somewhat easier as authorities are still investigating how it started.
