Dubai Police Bust Fraud Gang Posing as Officials to Steal Bank Details

Dubai Police have successfully dismantled a gang posing as employees of the Consumer Rights Protection Department. The gang tricked residents and citizens into sharing sensitive personal information, including banking details, through deceptive phone calls. They convinced victims to log into the UAE PASS app under the guise of updating their information, which allowed them to access bank accounts and steal funds.

The authorities had received numerous complaints about this fraud ring, which targeted individuals by manipulating their trust in official institutions. The suspects employed advanced methods to extract sensitive data like bank card numbers and CVV codes, which were then used to make unauthorized withdrawals.

After receiving reports of these increasing fraudulent activities, Dubai Police’s Anti-Fraud Centre formed a special task force to track down the perpetrators. The effort led to the identification and arrest of the suspects, with electronic devices used in their illegal operations being recovered.

The police have issued a warning to the public, urging them not to share any personal information over the phone, especially if the caller claims to represent an official entity. They advised residents to always verify the caller’s identity and the legitimacy of their request before providing any sensitive details.

Dubai Police emphasized that fraudsters often impersonate trusted institutions to deceive individuals into handing over banking and personal information. They encouraged the public to report suspicious calls immediately to prevent further crimes.

The Anti-Fraud Centre also reminded everyone to report cyber fraud incidents through the “eCrime” platform at www.ecrime.ae or the nearest police station.
