Abu Dhabi Police Warn: Dh1,000 Fine for Misusing Road Shoulders

Abu Dhabi Police have issued a stern warning to motorists about the dangers of misusing road shoulders, reminding the public that these areas, marked by a yellow line, are designated strictly for emergencies. Overtaking or driving on the shoulder is a violation that can endanger lives and disrupt the flow of traffic, the authorities emphasized.

A recent video shared by Abu Dhabi Police highlights the reckless behavior of a driver who overtook from the left shoulder while failing to maintain a safe distance, which could have led to serious accidents. This dangerous practice puts both the motorist and other road users at significant risk.

The road shoulder is intended to serve a critical purpose: it provides space for emergency vehicles like ambulances, police cars, and fire trucks to maneuver quickly and reach people in urgent need of help. Injured individuals seeking immediate assistance can also utilize it. However, in non-emergency situations, using the shoulder for overtaking or other unauthorized purposes is not just illegal—it’s a serious safety concern.

To combat this issue, Abu Dhabi Police have made it clear that misuse of the road shoulder will result in a fine of Dh1,000 and the addition of 6 traffic points to the driver’s record. Authorities urge all motorists to respect the designated emergency areas and to always prioritize road safety.

This move is part of a broader effort by Abu Dhabi Police to reduce traffic violations and ensure safer road conditions for everyone. Drivers are reminded to stay vigilant and follow traffic rules to prevent accidents and keep the roads safe for all users.
